What is Gentlelase?
Gentlelase laser hair reduction is a medically developed and researched laser system for the reduction of unwanted body hair. It remains the world's most effective laser technology for hair reduction.
How does it work?
The Gentlelase light travels through the skin to the base of the hair follicle where it is absorbed by the pigment surrounding the hair forming cells. The laser energy heats the follicle and damages the cells that produce hair.
Is the process painful?
The Gentlelase process uses cryogen to cool the skin making it far more comfortable than many other lasers in the market. The sensation has been described as being similar to a small rubber band being lightly flicked against your skin.
How long does the treatment take?
Most areas can be treated in 5 to 60 minutes - depending on the surface area and hair density being treated.
Why do I need a Screening?
We conduct a screening with every client before the treatment:
| • |
to identify the area to be treated and advise you how to prepare the area before treatment |
| • |
to assess if the Gentlelase treatment is appropriate for you |
| • |
to fully explain the process and what to expect |
| • |
to perform a patch test to identify the appropriate energy level for you and to advise of the cost of your treatment program |
How many treatments will it take?
This depends on the area being treated and can be influenced by age, hair colour, and hormones. However, studies have shown an average hair loss of approximately 80% after 6 treatments. After atreatment, hair growth will be reduced for several weeks. Then some of the treated area is likely to start to regrow again. Re-treatments are carried out when the hair growth starts again.
Will the hair return?
Hair that is treated effectively during your treatment program will not return. It is possible for some individuals to develop some new hair in the treated area after treatment has completed.
What’s the difference between Laser and Intense pulse Light (IPL)?
LASER is a very special type of light that has three characteristics that separate it as the brightest, most powerful light known to mankind. LASER light is monochromatic (i.e. one colour) so this means nearly 100% of LASER light is ONE pure colour. Intense pulse light (IPL) is NOT monochromatic, meaning that IPL has many different colours and only a small percentage of these colours are effective in the treatment of hair reduction.
LASER is collimated meaning it’s slow to diverge or spread out. This makes LASER light very powerful as nearly 100% of the light can be effective in the treatment of hair reduction. IPL is NOT collimated and so therefore is quick to spread out making it less effective in the treatment of hair reduction.
Finally LASER is coherent meaning that the light is totally reinforcing and doesn’t cancel itself out whereas IPL is NOT coherent and is NOT reinforcing making it less effective in the treatment of hair reduction.
Clinical Studies have been performed comparing the effectiveness of LASER versus IPL in the treatment of hair reduction and we feel that LASER is far more effective at hair reduction than that of IPL.
Possible side effects?
The skin may appear a little pink and feel like mild sunburn that may last from an hour to 24 hours. In rare cases redness may last a few days and there may even be some slight scabbing, which subsides over several days. Importantly, neoSKiN's treatments require no down-time from your busy life.
How Do I Prepare For Each Treatment?
In order to prepare for your laser treatments, it is vital that you follow the below steps:
1. The area MUST be shaved 2 days prior; this ensures an optimal treatment and result.
2. Remove any fake tan from the area. No tan to be used one week prior to treatment. Application of fake tan post treatment is acceptable.
3. No tanning in either the sun or solarium on any area you wish to treat with laser.
